We attend church services, maybe a bible study now and then and we read our bible. But are we prepared for persecution if it comes? Do you read your bible and really study it? Do you check with God through prayer and do your own self-study on what you are taught by men? The bible warns us about not following the traditions of men because it is so easy just to trust spiritual teachers, especially if we have known them for a long time and have built trust in their leadership. It’s also difficult when generations of your family have been spiritually led by a certain person or ministry. You become fearful of what your family will think or say if you feel something hasn’t been taught biblically by a teacher/leadership that they respect.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest there be any man that spoil you through philosophy, and vain deceit, through the traditions of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

We read in Matthew 15:6 that Jesus told the scribes and Pharisees of Jerusalem that they made the commandment of God of none effect by the traditions they taught. This account is also recorded in Mark 7:3-9 Where again we read of Jesus calling the Pharisees and scribes hypocrites. Jesus said they worship teaching for doctrines and the commandments of men laying aside the commandment of God to hold on to the tradition of men. He said they rejected the commandment of God by keeping their own tradition.

Make sure you and those you care about or have an influence over have the tools they need to study God’s Word for themselves. Make sure you are grounded in biblical truth and not men’s traditions. Your eternal life depends on it.
